ONLINE SAFETY TIP'S.

I see alot of people who put their last name in these surveys. Big mistake, take those surveys off your page. I also see people who put their last name in their urls. You can't change your url once it is set but there is codes to hide them, but they don't work very well because they will still see your url if they look at the blue bar above the address bar. So never put your name in the url when you pick one.

I also see people who put their first name and last initial in their urls. I have added people to my friends this way that require you know their last name or email to add them. Say you live in a small town or have a name that is not very common. I can look up your name on yahoo, or white pages and get your last name just by entering your first name and last initial. I have added people this way, that required I know their last name.

Names your friends leave in comments. Usually if I want to find out a persons name to leave them a comment with their name in it and their name is not on their page, I just look at their comments, starting with the oldest page right when they opened the account. I usually find it too cuz when alot of people open their account their first friends are people they know.


Another way I have added people when I did not know their last name, people put their companies or schools they went to. I can type in your first name and they company you work at and most of the time get your last name. Same with schools.

Another way, people who use photobucket I have noticed sometimes have their last name in their photo url's.

Why all the fuss about your name? If someone knows your full name, it is easy to find out where you live. Even if your number and address is unlisted in the phone book, alot of court records places like the wisconsin circuit court access link on my page, if you type in someones name it will show any speeding tickets, divorces, lawsuits, order for protections, etc. And it shows the last address the court has on you.

Lets use common sense when you are online, myspace has over 90 million users and not all of them are good people. Do you really want murderers and rapists knowing where you live? Try to be more careful of what info you put on your page.

Suggestions if you are concerned about your safety: Do not put your real city you live in! Do not use your real first name. Do not put your real hometown, do not list any of your companies, or schools. Edit comments where people who know you have left your name in it.
